Varied means changed or altered, while various means different.  Types of communication is a plural subject.  Therefore the verb is third person plural.

Face-to-face communication is definitely a more direct and personal way for getting in touch with people since it involves physical closeness that enhances understanding each other.  Such straight contact which includes body language interpretation, tone of the voice expression and energy of vibes sensing that are presented simultaneously showing one’s attitude clearly and being perceived easily for the other responder; however, I feel that other methods of communication are also playing dynamic roles in our social interaction.

With new technological assistants, varies of alternative kinds of communication like telephone calls, letter, e-mail or text messages have replaced physical communication at certain point. Efficiency is the most prominent cause that suits fast-paced and busy scheduled lives of people since to-do list leaves no room for meeting other people; however, only few minutes of telephone conversation or internet chatting still allows you to state your love to the one you care.   Multitasking is another reason of favoring with optional contact rather than face-to-face communication.  You can be making a dinner reservation over the phone while keying strokes for text messages to your friends. 

Convenience is another cause to make alternative types of communication prevalent.  You can type up your e-mail anytime when you are free and the receiver can review his/her e-mail anytime conveniences to him/her.  Neither sender nor recipient needs to commit specific time to complete such contact which speeds up the process compare to face-to-face communication because the common suitable time can be hard to match sometimes.  Furthermore, time and expenses consumption are advantaged for national and international scale of communication. Connection like e-mail, internet phone and instant messenger provides borderless communication at no costs that face-to-face contact will be never enjoyed such benefits.

It is hard to define which communication is better because above mentioned manners of contact have their own special characteristic and advantages that go well with diversified situations.  Adapting different ways of communication accordingly and flexibly is the way of achieving better and effective communication.
