My bad habit

Everyone seems to have one bad habit to balance their lives in such fast paced and stressful living condition, either drug addiction or drinking problem.  I consider workaholic is also another form of bad habit because its obsession degree is as strong as other bad habits.  My mom is one of the good examples of such case.

My mom is a traditional Chinese woman who works hard all her life.  She is still working even in her sixty. I have advised her to retire and to enjoy her life, but she just is not willing to do so. Whenever on her day off, she always keeps herself busy like a bee even at home and never sits down and relaxes.  I do not understand her sometimes, I am not sure whether she works hard for us or she really enjoys working. In any case, I appreciate her works.  Maybe working keeps her young and energetic.

On the other hand, my bad habit seems so unproductive compared with my mom’s, in fact, it is destructive.  None of my family member smokes cigarette except I.  My smoking habit was totally established unexpected unconsciously.  The first time I smoked, I remember it was over 10 years ago.  I hangout with my friends and they offered me a smoke, I thought it was kind of cool, so I tried.  I didn’t like it a bit at the beginning because it smelled and tasted really bad as well as made me feel dizzy. I did not understand why the people enjoy the cigarette so much.  I only smoked when I hangout with my friends and never brought a pack of smoke until one day.  I was alone at home and having coffee, all of a sudden, I have an impulse to having a smoke and I went down to the street and get a pack of cigarette.  Since that day, I’ve become a regular smoker from casual smoker even though I only smoke a few per day.  Smoking sometimes does relax me especially combines with coffee or alcohol.  I don’t like the feeling of being anxious and worry when there is only one cigarette left in the box and I have to get a new pack.  Obviously, I am addicted to the tobacco.
